As a financial institution, we're required to watch what's going on in our network. We want to make sure that you have every penny that's yours. We want to make sure that the criminals don't get in there. The firewalls help with the North-South by stopping hackers or criminals from trying to break in. But we didn't have the East-West visibility to see if someone had broken in or had done something nefarious to see what was going on East-West. (So for us) that was a key thing. We are using the Check Point 15600. We have two of them one at our primary (days) data center and the other at our backup data center. We've taken the 15600 and put an interface in promiscuous mode and we are collecting and aggregating all of our data and sending it to the IDS sensor. The IDS sensor then processes it and then sends an alert based on the parameters we've set up of things that we want to be alerted on. Our goal is to detect right now down the road we're going to get to PREVENT. We've had our IDS sensors in place now for approximately two months. We've found that we've been able to identify traffic anomalies and problems in our infrastructure. Having the 15600 in place as IDS sensors has been extremely helpful. It's helping us because we now have more access to the traffic more understanding of the infrastructure and better clarity of what's going on on our networks For us at Ent Credit Union monitoring the East-West traffic for our customers means that we have complete visibility of what's going on in our infrastructure. We can see what's going on from east-west or North-South. That's the benefit. That gives us additional peace of mind to make sure our member's information stays safe and secure.
